To take an accurate reading, first place the cuff over your left wrist with your left thumb facing upwards.

Next, position the unit, leaving approximately 0.5-inches of space between the edge of the cuff and your palm.

When your wrist reaches the proper position in line with your heart, the monitor beeps and automatically starts.

Instructions for Wrist Blood Pressure Monitors
There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Stress raises blood pressure, so avoid taking measurements during stressful times. Also, measurements should be taken in a quiet place. You should be in a relaxed, seated position with your feet flat on the floor. Before you take your measurement, rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes. Place the cuff over your left wrist with your left thumb facing upwards. Position the unit leaving approximately 0.5-inches of space between the edge of the cuff and your palm. Pull the cuff upward while holding the edge of the wrist cuff and wrap snugly. Make sure to lightly press the Velcro closure with your fingers so that it is fastened tightly.

Using your elbow as an axis point, slowly raise your left hand at an angle towards your right shoulder. Stop your movement when the heart mark is aligned with the arrow symbol. When your wrist reaches the proper position, the monitor beeps and automatically starts inflation and measurement. Hold your wrist at this position. Do not make any movements until the measurement results are displayed. Once the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure.

What is IntelliSense?
The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use — you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation, every time, for maximum comfort.

The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including:

  • White-Coat Hypertension: blood pressure reading is high in your doctor’s office but lower at home
  • Masked Hypertension: blood pressure reading is low in doctor’s office but higher at home
  • Morning Hypertension: blood pressure reading is higher in the morning

Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you’ve been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication.

I got this unit for my mom for x-mas and am planning to return it. It is inaccurate. My mom measured her blood pressure twice daily since x-mas and it was fluctuating. Then a couple of days ago she checked her blood pressure several times in a row. Each time there were widely different readings. How is it possible? So it is unreliable unit for we can’t tell which readings are accurate. Since it doesn’t do what it is supposed to do I wasn’t gonna give it any stars, but I gave one star because it’s compact and easy to use. Although it’s useless.

This unit was procured for my wife. She likes it very much. The manual may confuse you, you are led to believe it is hard to get your arm in the right position…pointing up with your wrist, in-line, level with your heart. But the unit beeps when you achieve the correct position and then, starts to auto-inflate. Which, is wonderfull since it is hard or nearly impossible to look at the LCD screen while you are moving your arm up or down since the LCD screen is facing away from you.

Yes, you will occassionally get an “error” message…but you get that with forearm cuff. And putting it on the wrist is so much easier, than “forearm cuff.” As for inaccurries between wrist and forearm….well that maybe true but excerpt for a Doctor/nurse taking your reading…I never would trust home units 100% anyway. You get a chance to monitor your blood pressure and perform some base-lining throughout the day. If you are real high, throughout the day, then you have some information to call your doctor’s office and see if they are concern. At $39.00-49.00 well worth it.

The blood pressure cuff smelled bad when I took it out of the box; it had no batteries either.
